Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO) is a modern facility that opened in 2021, replacing the old Liuting terminal, with a single large terminal building served by satellite concourses. Connections are generally straightforward domestically thanks to the compact people-mover system, but international transfers require immigration and customs clearance that can add significant time. As a growing but still secondary hub, TAO has fewer bottlenecks than Beijing or Shanghai, though signage and English-language support can be inconsistent for international transit passengers. An automated people mover (APM) connects the main terminal to the satellite concourses, with transit times of about 5-8 minutes between hubs. Domestic-to-domestic passengers generally stay airside without re-screening if connecting within the same concourse, but international arrivals must clear immigration and customs before any domestic connection, and all passengers connecting to international flights from domestic sectors undergo a security re-screening.
