We recommend at least 50 minutes for a comfortable connection at Miami International. The minimum connection time is 45 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 30 minutes.

MIA is American Airlines' largest hub and a major gateway to Latin America, with a long, multi-concourse terminal that stretches over a mile from end to end. Connections are manageable if both flights are domestic and on the same side of the terminal, but international arrivals must clear US Customs and Border Protection before re-entering security, which adds significant time and risk. MIA's Skytrain, an elevated automated people mover, links Concourses D, E, F/G, H and J along the departures level, with each hop taking 3-5 minutes plus walking to and from stations. Passengers arriving on international flights must exit through Federal Inspection Services (immigration and customs), reclaim and recheck bags, then pass back through TSA security to reach a connecting gate — domestic-to-domestic transfers do not require rescreening if staying airside.
