DFW is American Airlines' largest hub, sprawling across five terminals connected by the Skylink automated train. Same-terminal connections can be very fast, but transfers across terminals — especially involving international arrivals into Terminal D — require real buffer time due to walking distances and immigration/customs processing. The Skylink train connects all five terminals airside and typically takes 5-10 minutes between any two stops, running frequently with minimal wait. Passengers arriving internationally into Terminal D must clear immigration and customs, recheck bags if connecting onward, and go through security again before reaching Skylink to another terminal, which can add significant time versus a pure domestic-domestic transfer.
