We recommend at least 1 hour 15 min for a comfortable connection at King Khaled International. The minimum connection time is 45 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 40 minutes.

Domestic-to-Domestic: 45 min. Domestic-to-International: 60 min. International-to-Domestic: 75 min. International-to-International: 90 min. These are the shortest layovers airlines will sell at King Khaled International.

Connecting in Riyadh can be slow because King Khaled International is split across several stand-alone terminal buildings with no airside train or walkway linking them. Unless your connection stays within the same terminal (increasingly common for Saudia flights routed through the new Terminal 5), expect a landside bus transfer and a fresh security screening. The airport is modern and spacious, but the physical layout works against fast connections. There is no inter-terminal train at RUH; passengers move between terminal buildings via landside shuttle buses that loop the airport perimeter, which can take 15-25 minutes depending on traffic and terminal distance. Because the terminals are separate structures, most transfers require exiting the arrival terminal, clearing an immigration/security checkpoint again, and re-entering through departures security at the connecting terminal, adding significant time versus an airside-connected hub.
