We recommend at least 1 hour for a comfortable connection at Malpensa. The minimum connection time is 50 minutes for schengen flights and 55 minutes for non-schengen flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 45 minutes.

Schengen-to-Schengen: 50 min. Schengen-to-Non-Schengen: 60 min. Non-Schengen-to-Schengen: 60 min. Non-Schengen-to-Non-Schengen: 55 min. These are the shortest layovers airlines will sell at Malpensa.

Malpensa is split across two physically separate terminals connected only by a shuttle bus, which makes T1-T2 connections slow and risky, while connections within T1 itself (including its satellite pier) are more manageable via an automated people mover. Most flag-carrier and long-haul traffic funnels through T1, while easyJet and other low-cost carriers dominate T2, so knowing which terminal you're landing and departing from matters enormously here. Within Terminal 1, an underground automated people mover connects the main hall to the Satellite pier in about 5-10 minutes, though non-Schengen arrivals from the satellite often require a passport control queue. Between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 there is no airside link at all; passengers must exit security, ride a free shuttle bus (15-20 minutes depending on traffic and waiting), and clear security screening again on arrival at the other terminal.
