Rome Fiumicino is ITA Airways' main hub, but its layout is fragmented across multiple terminals connected by long walks and shuttle buses. Connections within the main Schengen network are manageable, while itineraries touching Terminal 5 — used for U.S., Canada, and Israel flights — require extra time and re-screening. Terminal 3 is the main hub building with extensive airside walkways linking Schengen and non-Schengen piers, typically a 10-20 minute walk. Terminal 5, used for flights to the US, Canada, and Israel, sits in a separate building reached only by a landside shuttle bus (10-15 minutes) that requires passengers to exit security and clear it again, adding significant time versus a T1/T3 connection.
