Mexico City International (MEX) is one of the more challenging connection airports in the Americas because its two terminals are not linked airside — passengers must exit security, use a landside train or bus, and clear security again to reach the other terminal. Connections that stay within the same terminal (common for Aeroméxico's Terminal 2 hub) are manageable, but any T1-T2 transfer needs a generous buffer. The Aerotrén is a free landside train connecting T1 and T2 in about 5-10 minutes, with a free shuttle bus as a backup or alternative; both require passengers to leave the sterile area first. Because there is no airside link between terminals, all T1-T2 transfers involve full security re-screening, and international arrivals must also clear immigration and customs before re-entering security on the other side.
