We recommend at least 1 hour 15 min for a comfortable connection at Cancun International. The minimum connection time is 45 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 20 minutes.

Domestic-to-Domestic: 45 min. Domestic-to-International: 60 min. International-to-Domestic: 75 min. International-to-International: 90 min. These are the shortest layovers airlines will sell at Cancun International.

Cancun International is overwhelmingly an origin-and-destination leisure airport, not a designed hub, so genuine through-connections are rare and often clunky. Terminals are physically separate buildings linked by shuttle buses, and most arriving international passengers must clear immigration and customs before they can even think about a next flight. Airlines rarely sell tight connections here because the infrastructure simply isn't built for seamless transfers. Terminal 2, 3, and 4 are separate structures connected by a free inter-terminal shuttle bus that runs every 10-20 minutes, with the T2-to-T4 leg taking the longest. There is no airside train or sterile walkway between terminals, so passengers connecting across terminals must exit, take the bus, and re-enter through security (and often immigration) at the new terminal.
