Nassau International is primarily an origin-and-destination airport for tourists and Bahamian residents, not a true transfer hub, so formal connections are limited and often require rechecking bags and repeating security. The airport's US Customs and Border Preclearance facility is the defining feature: passengers flying onward to the United States clear US immigration and customs in Nassau, which adds significant time but lets them arrive as domestic passengers stateside. NAS operates out of a single terminal building split into a non-US international/domestic side and a separate US-bound concourse with its own preclearance facility. Passengers connecting from an international or Bahamian-domestic arrival to a US-bound departure must exit and re-enter through US Customs and Border Protection preclearance, including a full immigration and customs check plus TSA-style security screening, all on foot within the same building.
