We recommend at least 1 hour 15 min for a comfortable connection at Kuala Lumpur International. The minimum connection time is 45 minutes for domestic flights and 70 minutes for international flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 30 minutes.

KUL is really two airports in one: the Main Terminal (KLIA) for Malaysia Airlines and full-service carriers, and klia2 a few kilometers away for AirAsia and other low-cost carriers. Connections within the same terminal complex are straightforward thanks to the Aerotrain link to the Satellite Building, but any transfer between Main Terminal and klia2 requires a shuttle bus or train ride plus full re-clearance through security and often immigration, making it one of the more punishing connections in Asia if you're not prepared. Within the Main Terminal, the automated Aerotrain shuttles passengers to the Satellite Building in about 2-3 minutes with no re-screening for onward connecting flights. Moving between Main Terminal and klia2 requires either a free inter-terminal shuttle bus (roughly 20 minutes) or the KLIA Ekspres train (about 3 minutes of ride time), but in both cases you exit and re-enter secured areas, meaning a full security screening and sometimes immigration/customs re-clearance.
