Tips for 3 hr Connections
China Southern consolidates most of its domestic and international flights in T2, so many connections avoid a terminal change entirely.
If your itinerary crosses T1 and T2, budget at least 30 minutes for the APM ride plus walking and re-clearing security.
International arrivals connecting to a domestic flight must go through immigration and customs, then recheck bags — this alone can take 45-60 minutes.
Use the transfer counters in T2's arrivals hall if you need help rebooking or locating your next gate.
Signage is bilingual (Chinese/English) but can be confusing in the older T1 building, so allow extra buffer time there.
Busyness — Connection Risk

High risk
Tight connections are safer outside peak hours. Morning rush (6–9a), midday (11a–2p), and evening (4–8p) are highest risk.
Getting Between Concourses
T1 and T2 are connected by an APM train that takes about 6-8 minutes, plus walking and queuing time at each end that can push total transfer time to 20-25 minutes. A backup shuttle bus service runs the same route when the APM is down for maintenance. International arrivals must clear immigration and, in many cases, collect and recheck baggage before continuing, which does not apply to same-terminal domestic-to-domestic transfers.
