We recommend at least 55 minutes for a comfortable connection at Abu Dhabi International. The minimum connection time is 45 minutes for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 35 minutes.

Domestic-to-Domestic: 45 min. Domestic-to-International: 50 min. International-to-Domestic: 50 min. International-to-International: 60 min. These are the shortest layovers airlines will sell at Abu Dhabi International.

Abu Dhabi International's new Midfield Terminal (Terminal A) consolidated nearly all operations into one massive, modern building, making most connections a single-terminal affair for Etihad's hub traffic. The terminal is large with long concourses, but an internal people-mover and clear signage keep transfers manageable if you're not cutting it too close. A small number of flights still use the older Terminal 1, which requires a shuttle bus and adds real time to any connection. Within Terminal A, an automated people mover connects the two main concourses in a few minutes, though walking distances to gates can still be substantial given the terminal's scale. Passengers connecting to or from Terminal 1 must take a shuttle bus, which adds 15-20 minutes and typically involves a fresh security screening. Most international-to-international transfers within Terminal A stay airside without needing to re-clear immigration, but security re-screening can occur depending on gate assignment and inbound routing.
