Anchorage is less a hub for global connections and more a gateway hub for Alaska's regional network, built around Alaska Airlines' intra-state routes and a handful of seasonal international and mainland U.S. flights. The airport is compact and connections are generally straightforward, but the split between the North and South Terminals means some transfers require a walk and a second security screening. The North and South Terminals are connected by an enclosed, climate-controlled walkway that takes about 10-15 minutes to traverse at a normal pace. There is no train or shuttle between them since the terminals sit adjacent to one another, but passengers switching terminals must clear a separate security checkpoint, as there is no sterile connector between the two secure areas.
