We recommend at least 1 hour for a comfortable connection at Auckland International. The minimum connection time is 30 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international flights. Transit between terminals takes up to 15 minutes.

Domestic-to-Domestic: 30 min. Domestic-to-International: 60 min. International-to-Domestic: 75 min. International-to-International: 90 min. These are the shortest layovers airlines will sell at Auckland International.

Auckland Airport now operates from a single integrated terminal precinct, with domestic and international areas linked by an indoor walkway, which is a major improvement over the old separate-terminal setup. Connections are generally straightforward for domestic-to-domestic transfers, but international arrivals must clear NZ Customs, Immigration and biosecurity before any onward flight, which slows things down considerably. Air New Zealand's dominant hub operation and streamlined common-use gates help keep most transfers manageable outside of peak wide-body banks. The domestic and international areas are connected by a covered indoor walkway of roughly 10-15 minutes' walk, replacing the old inter-terminal bus. Passengers connecting from international to domestic (or vice versa) must pass through NZ Customs, Immigration, biosecurity and a fresh security screening, as there is no sterile international-to-international transit corridor. Domestic-to-domestic passengers stay airside throughout and do not face re-screening if using the same domestic security zone.
